If we travel from Manamelgudi for about 6 km towards west we will reach Sri Paranthaman Temple. The Stone sculptures which we see inside the temple are so beautiful and admirable. Sri Velloor Perumal by name Sri Sundararaja Perumal is here in this temple with his two Nacchiyars and he is welcoming us with Aacwa Hastha.
We will come to understand from the note found in the stone sculpture that this temple is built in B.C.1223. The famous and Great emporer Rajaraja Chozhan when he went to conquer the Sri Lanka, he has utilised the velloor canal place as safer one to hide and to keep the weapons and this being pointed out in History notes of Ponniyin Selvan of KALKI.
In these days, People of this area is accustomed to go to Madurai Alagar Temple daily to worship Sri Pathinettampadi Karuppar. As this became difficult, then they requested king Chozha to build a temple in this area. So the king Chozha built this temple and the Karuvarai is designed the same form we find in Tanjore Pragadeeswarar Temple. Moreover the kings of Pudukkottai who are ruling small areas gave 46 fence wet lands for the temple to utilize the earnings that came out from lands to meet Daily Pooja expenses and to provide lighting arrangement for the temple. The Vetpanivayal village near by Velloor belongs to this temple.
